Mens B, just managed to hold their nerve to defeat  an in-form Abbeydale side, newly returned to Division 1.
A maximum from Craig Fisher & Paul Bailey plus 2 from Steve Culf & Nick Walker earned a narrow 5-4 victory.
It could easily have gone wrong though as Fisher / Bailey took the 7th rubber 23-21 in the 3rd end to take a 4-3 lead and with the score at 4-4 Culf / Walker battled back from losing the first end to snatch the decider 22-20.

Brunswick ran away 8 1 winners in a largely one sided contest against the much fancied Harrogate Team in the last 16 of the Badminton England Cup at the English Institute of Sport last night.

Brunswick got off to good start with Alex Marritt winning the first game of his contest 21-15 before his opponent Alex Fowler fell victim to a knee injury at 14-10 in the second game handing Marritt a premature victory.

Nicki Chan-Lam battled hard in her singles match against her contemporary Laura Mercer before going down in straight sets 21-14 21-16.

The top mens doubles was conceded to Brunswick leaving Steve Parry and Robert Oadley to contest the second doubles against Tom Snape and Dave Shinkfield; a 21-7 21-13 victory for the home team and 3-1 up in the match.

The Harrogate ladies doubles pairs were full of Yorkshire County players and on paper looked a tough challenge! Nicola Smith and Tracy Parker teamed up in the second match to play Lucy Milne and Laura Mercer; following a number of well contested rallies the Brunswick pair eased to a 21-7 21-14 win.

Steve Parry in top form following his success in the mixed doubles final in the 6 Nations Tournament in Sweden teamed up with Tracy Watson in the third mixed and cruised to an impressive win 21-11 21-13 thus securing the match at 5-1 and a place in the Finals at the National Badminton Centre, Milton Keynes on the weekend of 13th and 14th June 2009.

The top ladies doubles match with Lisa Chapman and Nicki Chan-Lam for Brunswick versus Sarah Petch and Sarah Kinsella was the match of the tie with some incredibly hard fought points and quality badminton. The Harrogate pair took the first set 21-16 before their opposition with a change of tactics won a comfortable second end 21-13. The third end saw the Brunswick pair race to a 16-11 advantage only to be pegged back at 16-16; some tenacious badminton from the experienced Chapman meant that the Brunswick pair held their nerve to win 21-17.

The remaining top 2 mixed dead rubbers went the way of the home side rounding off a convincing 8-1 win.
